Movida is a Pioneer in Environmentally Responsible Actions In The Car Rental Industry

A client who chooses the Carbon Free program collaborates with the planting of trees and the neutralizing of polluting gas emissions from vehicles.

Those who rent cars at Movida can drive knowing they are not affecting the environment. The car rental company has launched a Carbon Free program which compensates carbon dioxide emissions (CO2) discharged by the vehicles by planting trees for environmental recovery. “This program is unheard of in Brazil’s car rental industry. Vehicles are great CO2 producers and with the Carbon Free we want to give our clients the possibility to participate in an action which will commit to environmental responsibility”, said Darcy Barros, Movida Director.

Movida is a young brand. It has been in the market for three years interacting with its clients by promoting relationship politics, partnerships, benefits and it is now entering the environmental preservation arena. "Be it in leisure or business trips, our client is worried about the quality of life. We want to offer the possibility of contributing to minimize the effects of vehicle emitted gases", says Darcy.

The client chooses Carbon Free when he/she rents a vehicle. The amount is added to the total rate. The cost for joining is R$ 2.00 or R$ 2.50, daily, depending on the category of the vehicle chosen. Movida was launched in October 2006, during ABAV’s Americas Fair and already has 33 stores in Brazil. It invests in technology, innovation, quality service and proximity with its clients and commercial partners. It offers its clients concept stores equipped with computers and Wi-Fi, 27 hour day rates, a fleet with four door vehicles and CD players in all categories, GPS system in 27 languages, promotions and partnerships with credit cards, airline companies and hotels. It has had an exponential growth: from 2007 to 2008, Movida’s revenue grew 132% and its fleet grew 70%. In 2009, up to August, compared to the same period the year before, revenue grew another 50%. Also in 2009, up to August, the operational numbers such as average daily rates and fleet occupation rates have overcome expectations.
